It’s Premier League match time at Villa Park on Saturday, December 11, when Aston Villa host West Brom Albion in match week 17.
Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun and also the current climate in the UK quite very much pushed us onto a plane devoid of too significantly resistance.
Of course us Brits really like Spain on account of its close proximity and abundance of English speaking residents especially within the South. However we had a hankering for something that got us close to the warmer parts but not the “bucket and spade brigade”.
Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just one win in their last 10 games, Villa are low on confidence.
After just a little net searching we came across a rented villa, not through a major provider but privately. I was a bit hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in fact the drive was so simple on one straight road I had nothing to fear.
We landed at Malaga around 2pm (a most sensible time to fly), collected our rental vehicle from underneath Malaga Airport (one of Malaga Airports biggest selling points) and by 4pm was sitting on the villa balcony comfortably warm holding a nice glass of chilled wine.
Villan’s only scoring opportunity came immediately after the break when Agbonlahor took a shot at aim off a Downing cross only to see Reina bring off a half-save cleared by Konchesky.
Below was Lake Vinuela a lovely blue ocean tucked in between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.
West Brom recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Newcastle in match week 16, their 1st league win over the Magpies in 18 attempts, over a quarter- century. Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position inside the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes by way of a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an chance to equalise instantly right after the interval but Carson was equalt towards the process as he saved a Taylor shot.
Di Matteo’s squad had been productive in defence even as they negated the twin threats of Carroll and Ameobi, and when Odemwingie scored on 71 minutes, he had secured the game for Albion. The striker got an additional goal within the dying stages and even though Newcastle got a consolation in injury time, they had been no match for the Baggies on the day.
Inside the air conditioned villa we had every little thing we needed. 3 smart bedrooms, two clean bathrooms, modern day kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with home comforts. not that we were going to spend lots of time here but it was good to know we had been not going to slum it. Outside we had our own private pool, brick BBQ location and sun terrace with remarkable views down the hillside.
After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position inside the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, though West Brom have jumped as much as ninth.
